Kits

Overview

This document will discuss types of kits, creating kits, managing kits, selling kits and purchasing kits.

Types of Kits

Standard Kit

A standard kit allows you to sell a colleB & Bction of inventory items under one part number. When entered into a sales order, the availability of a standard kit is predicated on the availability of its component parts. One unit of a kit becomes available to sell when all component parts are available to sell. Customers will see just one part number on any customer-facing documents.

Phantom Kit

A phantom kit allows you to set up a kit item that when entered into the sales order, each component part will be displayed instead of the kit part number. The phantom kit is simply used as a shorthand way to enter multiple items into a sales order at the same time.

Creating Kits

• Inventory -> Inventory Manager -> Item Manager

  

• Choose the inventory type. This will almost always be “Inventory”

  

• Next

  

• Choose inventory type -> “Kit”

  

• Next

• Add a part number

  

• Next

• Skip the characteristics screen as item-level characteristics will persist

• Next

• You will now be in the Kit Information screen

  

• Choose Kit Type “Standard” OR “Phantom”

  

• Check “Requires Assembly” if applicable. Requires assembly will prompt the warehouse staff in the shipper form to assemble the kit. It can also be used to add a flag on pick tickets.

• Add component items

  

• Enter units per kit for each item

  

• Add an additional service charge as needed

  

• Finish

  

Selling Kits

Selling kits are no different than normal items other than a kit won’t allocate unless all of the child items included in the kit are available. Additionally, if you add a kit item to a quote, it will be denoted by a green highlight on the order line item.

Managing Kits

Given that kits are made up of multiple child items each with their own cost/sell that is summed to give the parent kit item its gross cost/sell, all maintenance that you wish to persist for a given kit should be done at the child item level. All normal pricing logic will occur when entering the kit item in a sales order including column, contract, rebate and override level pricing. You can maintain kits at the order level, but these will be one-off changes that will not persist at the item level.

When you open a kit item in the item manager, you will see the child items pricing summary on the screen but will be unable to edit child item pricing without finding the child item in the item manager.

Kit Cost and Sell on Sales Order

If you need to adjust the cost of individual child items within a Kit you can do so from the Kit Info screen

• Right-click the line item to reveal the right-click context menu

  

• You can override the cost and/or sell for each child item by typing a different value in the cost/sell column for each item. New totals will be reflected at the bottom of the screen

Stock Adjustment for Kits

As all inventory data for kits is predicated on the availability of child items, you will notice that the stock adjustment option when right-clicking a kit item in a sales order will be disabled. However, should you need to make a stock adjustment to a child item in order to make the kit availability accurate you can do so from the kit details screen.

• Right-click the child item you’d like to adjust and choose “Stock Adjustment”

• Stock adjust the item as you would normally

Changing Allocated

In some cases, child items may be allocated to a kit on an order though you don’t want it to. You can choose to unallocate some or all of a given child item as needed. Perhaps you are waiting on a backorder for another child item in the kit and would like to keep the other child item that is in stock available to sell.

• Right-click the child item in kit details screen and select “Decrease Allocated for Kit”

Purchasing Kits

If a kit is on a sales order and material needs to be put on order to fulfill the sales order, kit child items will appear on the critical purchasing screen as normal
